Planning

Meal plan

It’s always a good idea to plan your meals for the week and write a shopping list. It’s important to stick to your list so you only buy what you need, it helps to prevent waste too.

Buy staple ingredients

Stock up on versatile, everyday items like rice, pasta, dried beans, lentils, and tinned tomatoes to build meals around.  They’re great store cupboard staples and will last a long time. Supermarket own brands are cheaper and just as good.

Use offers

Look for deals, remember it’s only a deal if you need it and will use it. Buy supermarket-brand essentials, check out discounted food areas or look for the "yellow stickers".

Eat Seasonally

Fruit and vegetables that are in season are typically cheaper so plan your weekly menu around seasonal produce. So, what’s in season? Have a look at our monthly guide. Remember wonky and misshapen fruit and veg are fine to eat and are often sold at a cheaper price.

Buy Frozen

If you have a freezer buying frozen is a great way to save money as frozen fruits, vegetables and even meat are often less expensive. Frozen fruit and veg tend to be picked and frozen at the time of their peak ripeness and their peak nutritional levels. So, they’re just as healthy as their fresh rivals.
