BYO Tupperware to these three cafés
Did you know that British workers’ ‘lunch on the go’ habit is generating 10.7 billion items of packaging waste annually?
We’ve been working with a handful of Food Savvy cafés and eateries in Norfolk and Suffolk to try and put an end to this, with our new ‘Take Away, Give Back’ scheme.
The initiative encourages customers to bring their own Tupperware or containers to the cafés by offering a discount for anyone with a reusable receptacle. Here are some of our favourite businesses that are taking part.
La Tour Cycle Café
7, Waterfront, Ipswich IP4 1FT
This family-friendly, waterfront café not only serves the purpose of a quick tea spot among an eclectic mix of armchairs, tables and crockery, but also offers space for local artists to present their work, as well as a number of community activities. Beyond the bunting and colourful posters, there’s a swap shop for clothes and furniture, a tipi full of kid’s toys and a guitar that anyone (and we mean anyone) can play on. La Tour Cycle Café is offering 10p off food bought when you bring your own container. Not only that, they have their own reuse scheme... there aren't any coffee cups here, only crockery. The café's policy is that if you want to take your brew away, you take it in a mug.
The Grazing Sheep
Regatta Quay, 15A, Ipswich IP4 1FH
This family business run by father and son, Bart and Julian, is keen to reduce its impact. With a delicious range of vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a ban on plastic-bottled water, this quay-side location is a fantastic spot for a long lunch or a takeaway tuck-in by the water! They’re offering 10% off and a loyalty stamp when you bring your own container.
Cafe 7 surrey Street
7 Surrey St, Norwich NR1 3NX
This relaxed café opened after owner, Lyn McAlister gained a following for her cupcakes at the local farmer’s market. A good spot for full English breakfasts, flapjacks and coffee. Lyn also offers cupcake classes or cakes on order! Café 7 Surrey Street offers 10% off when you bring your own container to the café.
